Achenyo Idachaba

2017 Fellow,

Ms. Achenyo Idachaba is a computer scientist-turned-social entrepreneur. She is the Founder and Creative Director of MitiMeth, an award-winning social enterprise based in Nigeria. MitiMeth’s unique handmade products have featured in several domestic and international exhibitions. Achenyo was nominated the 2015 Emerging Female Entrepreneur of the Year by the Creative Entrepreneurs Association of Nigeria (CEAN), and is a 2015 Tony Elumelu Entrepreneurship Programme (TEEP) awardee. She is the 2014 Cartier Women’s Initiative Awards Laureate for Sub-Saharan Africa, and a 2013 YouWIN!Women Awardee. MitiMeth also received the 2013 Local Raw Materials Content Award from the Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC) for its innovative use of water hyacinth. Achenyo has spoken at TED as well as Harvard University. She has been featured on Deutsche Welle TV, CNBC Africa, CNN’s African Start-Up, The Nation and BusinessDay Newspapers, Inc., BusinessLife Magazine and on BusinessAfrica TV. Her work has also been published in the Nigerian Field Journal. Prior to founding MitiMeth and Greennovative Chain Consulting, Achenyo spent 11 years with ExxonMobil in Fairfax, Virginia where she held a variety of regional and global positions. She has a B.Sc. in Computer Science and Economics from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, an M.S. in Applied Computer Science from Illinois State University and a M.B.A from Cornell University.

Adriana María Gil Herrera

2021 Fellow,

Adriana is a Guatemalan student of Biochemistry and Microbiology at the Universidad Del Valle de Guatemala. She is passionate about natural sciences, mainly in the field of medicine and ecology. With her project, she seeks that more people with different capacities have the opportunity to get involved in science, to have different perspectives, and to solve world problems more effectively. She is currently president of the Student Association of Biochemistry and Microbiology and Molecular Biotechnology, and is a member of the University Debating Society. She has received in her first two years of study academic distinction for good grades.

Adriana was selected as a participant in the 2021 Voces Que Inspiran.

Alondra Fraustro

2021 Fellow, Voices that Inspire Fellow

Alondra Fraustro is a young scientist and entrepreneur, originally from Monterrey, Nuevo León, México; she graduated as a Bacteriologist and Parasitologist Chemist from the Faculty of Biological Sciences of the Autonomus University of Nuevo León (UANL). Currently, she is a Scientific Communicator and Environmental Educator, and founder of Ciencia Mágica, where she shares scientific knowledge by giving conference courses and workshops to educate people and promote care for the environment. She has been recognized as a Hero of the Earth by the United Nations Organization to Combat Desertification and Drought in 2020 in South Korea for the development of an installation kit for orchards that help generate sustainable communities. She is the first Mexican to have won this award. Her talent, creativity, and passion have allowed her to represent Mexico, winning local, national, and international competitions since she was 14 years old. She has managed to represent Nuevo León nationally and Mexico internationally in panels and congresses where she always seeks to raise awareness of the importance of caring for the planet and acting to face change climate. She participated in the Expo-Ciencias Nuevo León 2018 contest, obtaining third place and earning national accreditation by the Institute for Innovation and Technology Transfer (I2T2) and CONACYT to represent its state Expo-Ciencias Nacional 2018 in Morelia, Michoacán with her project “Friendly kit for a home garden.” In turn, she was part of the organizing committee as an evaluator for Expo-Ciencias Nacional in Nuevo León 2019. Later she was selected as a speaker by the Academic Area of the National NETWORK of Youth Activities in Science and Technology as one of the best success stories from participating in the Winners Panel of Expo-Ciencias Nacional Sonora 2020, being an example for Mexican children and youth. In November 2020, she was selected as a speaker at TEDxUANLWomen 2020 for transmitting the power of women to be creators and generators of change, through the TEDx platform for the most extensive transfer of ideas internationally. In addition to her large number of recognitions, she is the CEO of “ECOBIORES”, an environmental biotechnology startup that generates degradable biomaterials, based on a circular economy system to replace plastics derived from petroleum. In February 2020 she managed to be recognized with the Sustainable Innovation Award, and in December 2020 with the BIOFASE Award, as one of the best high impact innovative ideas. In May 2021, she was part of the international magazine VICE to talk about water care, and she was selected as a finalist in the Woman Emprende 2021 contest, an event organized by Patricia Armendáriz – founder and director of Financiera Sustentable and Women Economic Forum – for her environmental venture Ecobiores.

Ana Inés Alvarez

2018 Fellow, Social Worker and Manager, Alza La Voz and Premio Mujeres Solidarias, Avon Foundation for Women

Ana Inés Alvarez has more than 18 years of experience in the field of social work, both in the public and private sector. She has been working for Avon Foundation Argentina since 2016, where she leads the Avon Promise to Help End Violence Against Women and Girls in Argentina, Chile and Uruguay, as well as the Women Solidarity Award, which recognizes and supports women who promote social development projects.

Ana was responsible for providing local support to implement the Justice Institutes on Gender-Based Violence in Argentinmailcha and Chile. She also coordinated the development of the GBV Protocol and Paid Leave for Avon female employees. By doing so, Avon became the first company in the country with this policy. Moreover, she is responsible for numerous awareness campaigns developed to end violence against woman and girls. The newest is a Virtual Reality campaign named “S.O.S ELLA: Trapped in a Violent Reality.” Ana earned a degree in social work from Buenos Aires University.

Ana was selected as a 2018 Global Freedom Exchange Fellow.

Candela Yatche

2019 Fellow, Student

Candela Yatche is a Psychology student at the University of Buenos Aires (UBA). She is part of the research group financed by the University of Buenos Aires (UBA) and the National Scientific and Technical Research Council (CONICET), which researches the relationship between eating habits, physical activity, and body image in teenage girls. Candela is also the founder of Bellamente [Beautifully], a social project created to make people aware of how media, society, and culture impose an unrealistic and unhealthy ideal of beauty. Through social media, workshops, and talks, she proposes a space for face-to-face and virtual discussions where we can re-think the dominant idea of beauty and promote self-acceptance.

She was an intern at Borda Hospital, in the Eating Disorders area. She also attended the Desórdenes Alimenticios [Eating Disorders] program at the La Casita Foundation. She led informal education initiatives in the Mi Refugio neighborhood. She accompanied Patch Adams to the Belen Festival, an intensive experience in community activism.

Mona Itani

2021 Fellow, General Manager, Riyada for Social Innovation

Mona is the General Manager of Riyada for Social Innovation, a social enterprise that offers youth programs, corporate trainings, and consulting services on social innovation and entrepreneurship. Riyada’s primary programs are their youth innovation programs and their e-learning platform for high school students, Shabab Lab. These programs aim to equip youth with social innovation skills consisting of digital technology, entrepreneurship and community engagement, while also connecting them with a helpful network. Riyada also offers corporate-sponsored innovation, mentorship and coaching programs as well as business development services to small and medium-sized enterprises. Mona holds a Bachelor of Arts in Engineering and a Masters in Engineering Management from the American University of Beirut and a PhD in Management from the University of Leicester. She belongs to the Lebanese League for Women in Business, She Entrepreneurs, the UNLEASH Community, and the U.S. Department of State alumni network. Mona’s expertise is in technology, education, management, and entrepreneurship.
