Setting up a jewelry display at the Femmes en DĢ©mocratie Trade Fair

Vital Voices’ Global Network Affiliate chapter in Haiti, Voix Essentielles – Femmes en DĢ©mocratie, will hold its sixth annual trade fair, Femmes, CrĢ©ation & Production, November 13-15, 2009 at the Karibe Convention Center in Petion Ville, Haiti. Femmes, CrĢ©ation & Production 2009 will bring together unique artisan work which reflects local traditions, culture and the creativity of contemporary designers in producing collections that reveal how local and global efforts can meet markets trends, create economic growth and shared prosperity in Haiti.

This year’s trade fair will coincide with the 10th anniversary of the founding of Femmes en DĢ©mocratie. Over the last decade, Femmes has worked across Haiti to promote women’s political participation, women’s entrepreneurship, and the protection of legal and human rights through training, networking, education, advocacy and events such as the annual trade fair.

Recognized as Haiti’s most distinguished annual trade fair, Femmes, CrĢ©ation & Production showcases high quality fashion accessories, home dĢ©cor and arts and crafts, as well as aromatherapy and agricultural products. Each year, the fair provides an opportunity for Haitian women exhibitors to raise product awareness, develop new contacts, meet retailers, build new business relationships and enter export markets.

This year, Femmes, CrĢ©ation & Production, will focus on the development and fostering of business linkages between local and international designers, local exporters, international importers and villages of producers from the “Yon Lakou – Yon Pwodi” (One Village – One Product) movement. This initiative is modeled after the Japanese movement, One Village – One Product. It seeks to facilitate market-oriented production and to promote value added production of traditional and niche products from artisan villages. This program was initiated by Femmes en DĢ©mocratie in rural and urban communities with the support of the KATA/CHF International/USAID program, the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB), Geneva Global and Groupe Sogebank.
