Zoe Marks is a Lecturer in Public Policy at the Harvard Kennedy School, researching conflict, peacebuilding, gender, and African politics. Her first book, Anatomy of an African Rebellion, examines how rebel groups sustain threats to states without widespread support, focusing on Sierra Leone. Her second book, Bread and Roses: Women at the Frontlines of Revolution, co-authored with Erica Chenoweth, documents women’s historic roles in global mass movements since 1945, showing that gender-inclusive movements are more likely to succeed. She also studies peacebuilding and community reintegration after war in Nigeria and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
