Women-Led Climate Adaptation: Investing in Women’s Leadership for Climate Resilience makes the evidence-based case for putting women’s leadership at the center of climate adaptation. Organized around the seven priority sectors of the UAE Framework for Global Climate Resilience and the Global Goal on Adaptation, the brief examines both the disproportionate climate impacts women face because of structural inequalities and the growing evidence that women’s leadership can strengthen resilience, resource stewardship, food security and disaster preparedness.
Drawing together research, international policy frameworks and examples from women in the Vital Voices Global Network, the brief identifies a critical gap between existing commitments and action. International frameworks already recognize women’s role in adaptation; what remains insufficient is the investment, access and recognition needed to scale women-led solutions. The brief offers concrete recommendations for governments, donors and development partners—from increasing direct financing for women-led initiatives and securing rights to land and resources to strengthening women’s participation in climate decision-making—providing a roadmap for turning commitments into meaningful, locally led climate action.
