Program Categories Human Rights & Extreme Forms of Violence Against Women & Girls
Our Human Rights work is focused on elevating survivor-centered, intersectional, inclusive, and trauma-informed practices to prevent, respond to and address extreme forms of violence against women & girls around the world.
Extreme forms of violence against women & girls includes that is directed at an individual based on their biological sex or identity. It includes physical, sexual, verbal, emotional and psychological abuse, threats, coercion and economic or educational deprivation. Extreme forms of violence against women & girls remain pervasive around the world and are recognized as a violation of human rights. They limit, and in many cases prevent, individuals from achieving their full leadership potential in all areas of society, with devastating impacts that reverberate in communities and countries across the world.
Our programs work with people to:
- Provide urgent, life-saving assistance in the immediate aftermath of violence.
- Increase the capacity of survivor and survivor-supportive organizations to implement inclusive, locally-based solutions.
- Equip women leaders and their allies with the tools needed to scale their impact in the space.
- Improve local and global coordination and collaboration around preventing and addressing extreme forms of violence against women & girls.
By investing in leaders who strengthen legal frameworks, provide critical services to survivors, and improve coordination around preventing and addressing extreme forms of violence against women & girls, our team at Vital Voices ensures survivors of extreme forms of violence and exploitation around the world have better access to the services, protection and justice they deserve.
