Devi Asmarani is the Editor-in-Chief and co-founder of feminist web magazine Magdalene. She is also a writing instructor for the Jakarta Post Writing Center, a columnist, and a writer, editor and independent media consultant with international development organizations. Her 20-year experience in journalism began at The Jakarta Post, followed by The Straits Times of Singapore, where she wrote news reports, award-winning in-depth reports and analyses on various issues from politics, conflicts, and terrorism to natural disasters. For the past nine years, she has written columns, articles, essays as well as works of fiction for various local and international publications. She graduated with a degree in journalism from the University of North Alabama in the United States, and has taken part in the post-graduate Advanced Academic Programs of Johns Hopkins University in Washington, DC for Fiction Writing.
