Vital Voices and Iran coalition partners took the campaign directly to the U.N. today. International human rights attorney Gissou Nia and Iranian-American actors and activists Mozhan Marno, Nazanin Nour, and Nasim Pedrad met with Ambassador Lachezara Stoeva, the president of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), to deliver a letter demanding that the Islamic Republic of Iran (IRI) be removed from the U.N. Commission on the Status of Women (CSW).

ECOSOC is the 54-member U.N. body that will need to vote the IRI off the CSW,  and Gissou, Nasim, Nazanin, and Pedrad made the concerns of Iran’s women known to the Ambassador.

The letter, which appeared in last Sunday’s New York Times centerfold, is signed by prominent women leaders from all over the world and more than 84,000 grassroots supporters.
