Who run the world? Girls!

On Thursday May 5th, hundreds of girls from Washington D.C. gathered at the White House and marched to the Vital Voices Global Headquarters for Women’s Leadership to be present for the historic ribbon cutting and official opening of the building. Girls heard speeches from Secretary Hillary Clinton, Diane von Furstenberg, Mayor Muriel Bowser, Alyse Nelson, and saw a special performance by MILCK for the groundbreaking opening of Vital Voices Headquarters.

After the ribbon cutting, the girls were welcomed to the building with three hours of curated programming and activities that celebrated the power of young women’s leadership.

The festivities started with a panel titled Rising Voices: The Next Generation of Women Leaders.

Through the Rising Voices initiatives, Vital Voices empowers young women leaders through training, mentorship, and social-impact funding, inspiring the next generation of changemakers and shaping the leaders of tomorrow. In this panel, girls heard from some of these young leaders about their leadership journeys, the power of mentorship, and why the world needs young voices.

Other activities included:

MILCK Songwriting Workshop

Panmela Castro Interview, Graffiti Demonstration, and Interactive Graffiti Wall

Self Defense Class with Lina Khalifeh of SheFighter

Wellness Activity with Victoria Zitrin
