“This help revived me. It gave me a second chance at life…I was able to get medical help and take my perpetrators to court.” – Survivor
Vital Voices provides life-saving support to survivors of extreme forms of violence. We provide holistic assistance to marginalized, resource-scarce, and conflict-affected women, girls and their families to help them physically and mentally heal and regain control of their lives.
We need your support to enable us to continue to meet these urgent needs.
For over a decade, Vital Voices has provided urgent assistance funding to over 5,000 survivors of extreme physical, sexual and psychological violence, such as rape, sexual abuse, female genital mutilation/cutting, trafficking and forced prostitution.
Our Impact
In partnership with our global network of changemakers, we deliver immediate, life-saving support to women, girls, and their families while investing in long-term solutions, training and tools to prevent and respond to violence against women and girls.
- In 2024 alone, we provided 922 survivors across more than 60 countries with relocation, security, mental health, and medical support
- Many of the survivors we have supported have in turn become advocates for others—for example, Nobel Prize Winner Nadia Murad received Urgent Assistance Funding from our program shortly after she escaped slavery by ISIS.
- Through 22 Justice Institutes in over 13 countries, we have trained 1,200 justice professionals including law enforcement, judges, and service providers to combat violence more effectively—for example, raising the legal marriage age in Jordan from 15 to 18, addressing a critical issue impacting women’s health and safety.
- In 2024 we partnered with more than 100 organizations to increase the reach of our program, ensure that our support is locally tailored, increase access to justice for survivors, and provide urgent assistance around the world.
Our work also recognizes that in the digital age, deep-fake pornography, online harassment, doxing, and online threats to women leaders and their children are tools used to silence women—especially those who dare to lead and speak truth to power.
- We partnered with Columbia University’s SIPA Institute of Global Politics to enable groundbreaking research on online harassment authored by Nina Jankowicz, Former Executive Director of the Disinformation Governance Board of the United States, which underscores the urgent need for coordinated, cross-sector solutions.
- In 2025, we are integrating software into our internal digital platforms to provide helpful resources and allow women leaders to report online threats—enabling Vital Voices to collect data on the prevalence of online threats and harassment of women leaders to help advocate for stronger regional protections.
