“We can indeed be change agents in our respective surroundings,” insists Reyna McPeck, a prominent business leader in Venezuela and a staunch advocate for women’s progress. Married at 18 and a mother of six, McPeck always knew she wanted to be an entrepreneur. As energetic as she is determined, she went back to college at age 30 and honed the skills to bring her business ideas to a global market. Today, McPeck is Managing Partner of Comercial Refrinox, a major manufacturing company of service industry equipment. She also has served as President of the Small Business Committee for the Venezuelan-American Chamber of Commerce.

McPeck has put her leadership ability to work on behalf of women’s empowerment. She helped create and serves as president of the Venezuelan Chapter of the International Women’ s Forum, which focuses on leadership training. She also chairs the Vital Voices of Venezuela Chapter, established in 1998.

Working in partnership with Vital Voices Global Partnership (VVGP), McPeck has launched a series of training programs to engage women leaders in business, community organizations and politics. In 2001 she spearheaded a Vital Voices information technology training program in Venezuela, supported by Citibank in Caracas and the U.S. Embassy. In 2003 she coordinated leadership and advocacy training programs for 100 women in partnership with IESA, a leading academic institution, the U.S. Embassy, VVGP, Citibank, and other corporate partners.

Says McPeck, such programs “are urgently needed to catapult women into leadership positions where they can make a substantial contribution in this democratic process towards a better and more just society.”
