UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon announced on September 14 that former President of Chile Michelle Bachelet would be heading up the new UN agency dedicated exclusively to women, the first of its kind – UN Women. Commenting on her recent appointment, Bachelet said:
“We have to make sure that women’s issues are an essential element on the agendas of all heads of state, all governments.”
