Violeta Bermúdez

Violeta is a lawyer with a law degree from San Marcos University of Peru. She also completed Master’s studies in Constitutional Law. She has experience in project planning, formulation, management, implementation, and monitoring and evaluation. She is also a program developer, with a focus on democracy, good governance, human rights and gender. Throughout her career, she has held several important positions in the Peruvian government as well as in NGOs and cooperating agencies.

Violeta was appointed to the position of Vice-Minister of the Ministry of Women’s Promotion and Human Development in 2002. In this position, she helped formulate and secure approval of policies concerning the Forum of Equity and Social Justice of the National Agreement.

For the last 5 years, she was the Director of a USAID Pro Decentralization Project, a program supporting good governance and the decentralization process in Peru. She has also taught at the Catholic University since 2003, currently sits on the Board of Directors of Movimiento Manuela Ramos, a major feminist NGO in Peru, and works as an independent consultant.

Violeta has participated in national and international conferences around democracy, human rights and gender, representing Peruvian NGOs in the II World Conference of Human Rights (Vienna, 1993) and the IV World Conference on Women held in Beijing in 1995.

 

She was selected as a Fellow for the first VV Engage Cohort.
