Tanzila Umi Habiba is a Member of the Sindh Provincial Assembly and the Chairman of the Standing Committee on Higher, Technical Education and Research, School Education and Special Education.

Tanzila began her career as a math and computer teacher at Bahria Foundation College Tando Muhammad Khan. She then became a Program Assistant in the Sindh Devolved Program, funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), and the organization appointed her as Finance and Governance officer after one year. After the completion of the ADB Project, she joined the Benazir Bhutto Youth Development Program as District Monitoring Coordinator. She has served as a member of the Sindh Provincial Assembly since August 2018.

 

Tanzila holds a Ph.D. in computer science. She is from the Sheedi community, an ethnic group in India and Pakistan descending from East Africa. Tanzila is the first Afro-Pakistani woman to be elected as Member of the Provincial Assembly in Sindh. She is using her platform to advocate for Sheedi rights and gender equality, and recently gave a Ted Talk about her experience becoming the first Afro-Pakistani woman MPA in Pakistan.

She was selected as a Fellow for the 2019-2020 VV Engage Cohort.
