Sphesihle Bhengu is the founder of the Amazwami Advocacy Project, a non-profit club which seeks to raise awareness and foster the roots of transformative education, gender equality, climate action and various socio-political thematics through advocacy work, storytelling and digital advancements. She is currently running a pilot project on developing climate curriculum for schools in South Africa. She holds a strong belief that young people should be able to make a connection between global climate crisis and their day-to-day local climate issues.

Bhengu studied biology and genetics at the University of KwaZulu-Natal and also trained as an aircraft structures worker at South African Airways Technical. She is currently enrolled in a Cybersecurity course with Cybersafe Foundation where she specializes in governance, risk, and compliance. She serves as a Young African Leaders Initiative alumna, GCED alumna, a Woman Deliver Youth ambassador and a YOUNGO member.

”As a visionary leader, I believe that youth and women should never be forced to negotiate and beg for a sit at a table. Youth inclusivity and gender equality shouldn’t be negotiable.”
