Dr. Sartiah Yusran is an Associate Professor and Postgraduate Coordinator in Public Health at the University of Halu Oleo Kendari, Indonesia. She is also the Coordinator of the expert team in the Gender Study Center at Halu Oleo University. Over the past 15 years, Sartiah has represented Indonesia in several international forums on women’s rights. A selection of this work includes the UN Commission on the Status of Women in New York, where she was a speaker representing the NGO Delegation in 2009, the German Foundation for World Population, and the Asian Forum of Parliamentarians on Population and Development.

Sartiah is a published author and an accomplished presenter at national and international conferences and workshops in Australia, Sweden, Japan, Russia, Thailand, the Netherlands and Indonesia. She is a gender trainer at both the local and national levels and has also worked as a gender adviser on national projects and international donor-funded programs in roles related to sexual and reproductive health, education and women’s empowerment. She is actively involved in women’s organizations and the promotion of women’s rights in Indonesia. She is a member of the expert team of the Indonesian Political Women Caucus. Sartiah was a guest speaker in Regional Women’s Leadership Initiative in Phnom Penh, Cambodia in April 2019.

Sartiah holds a PhD from the Key Centre for Women’s Health in Society, the School of Population Health, at the University of Melbourne, achieved under an Australian Development Scholarship.

She was selected as a Fellow for the 2019-2020 VV Engage Cohort.
