Founder and CEO, Khetipati Organics Pvt. Ltd.
Prakriti Gautam is the founder and CEO of Khetipati Organics, working in the eastern hills of Nepal with small and marginalized horticulture farmers and local youths, providing economic opportunities and financial stability. Prakriti was inspired to form Khetipati Organics after witnessing the heart-breaking realities of food loss at the farm-level and the economic vulnerabilities of smallholder farmers in Dhankuta. Determined to fight against food wastage, today, her company works with over 750 farmers across five districts and specializes in dehydrated organic fruit powders, high-altitude spices, and ready-to-eat meals. She is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of her company and navigating its growth through strategic planning. She is a Chevening Scholar and a graduate in Development Management from the London School of Economics and Political Science. She believes that holistic economic development should go and can go hand in hand with environmental consciousness and social inclusivity.
What Prakriti can offer other fellows:
100% of Prakriti’s operational staff and seasonal workers are local youth and she works with semi-literate and illiterate farmers. In such circumstances, running a factory means building great trust among workers, grooming them to be leaders, providing technical training, and most importantly unlearning the corporate culture and building emotional intelligence to capture the socio-cultural needs of the locals. Her story of how she built this company in a land of the unknown with the unknowns can give some insights into building transformational relationships to run an impact-driven company.
