Teina Mackenzie is a dynamic and multifaceted leader based in Rarotonga, Cook Islands, whose values are deeply interwoven with environmental advocacy, community empowerment, and ethical development. Her impressive background spans education, political engagement, entrepreneurship, and earnest commitment to cultural preservation and ocean health.

Through Te Ipukarea Society (TIS), the leading local environmental NGO, Teina champions the unique biodiversity of her island and ocean home and also serves as a UNESCO Communications Co-Commissioner and GEF-Small Grants Committee member for the Cook Islands, bridging local needs with global initiatives. Teina’s leadership extends beyond environmental circles. She has a distinguished history of community service via the Business & Professional Women’s Association (CIBPWA), the Cook Islands Voyaging Society (CIVS) – a testament to her embrace of traditional knowledge and maritime heritage, the Cook Islands Red Cross Society, and the Pacific Women in Maritime Association (PacWiMA).

A true global citizen, Teina’s expertise is recognized internationally having presented at numerous workshops, conferences, and fellowships worldwide. Her recognition as a Vital Voices LEAD Fellow and an IVLP Alumni speaks to her capacity for impactful global collaboration.
