Nageshwari Kamal Lochanprasad is the elected Vice Chairwoman of the Regional Democratic Council. She is also a single parent, an entrepreneur and survivor of sexual and domestic violence. Kamal grew up in a Hindu family with non-political affiliations and interest. She began her career as a successful small business owner and entered politics after a speech she gave demanding change in her hometown Bartica and country. Kamal, like many other Guyanese, had grown weary after living through over 2 decades witnessing a complete breakdown of law and order, mass atrocities of which close to a dozen fellow Barticians lost their lives in a massacre that left the then village, deeply traumatized. Kamal campaigned with the then opposition coalition APNU/AFC party and they were victorious. She was then appointed to serve as Vice Chairwoman on the Interim Management Committee of the Bartica Neighborhood Democratic Council. In March 2016, after decades, local government elections were held in which she was elected to serve as the first Deputy Mayor of the new township of Bartica

Since then, Kamal has served as Regional Representative for the Office of the Prime Minister, Vice Chairperson of the Interim Management Committee, Vice Chairwoman of the Bartica Town Council Finance Committee, Director on the Board of Directors of the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission, and Director on the BoD’s of National Communications Network NCN- with direct responsibility for Regional Radio and Chairwoman of The Market Committee of the Bartica Town Council. Currently she is serving as the Regional Vice Chairwoman of the Cuyuni/Mazaruni Region Seven, Member of The Regional Health Emergency Committee, Region Seven, and Chairwoman on the Gender Affairs Committee in Bartica and a Justice of Peace. Kamal has also started an initiative called ” Take a Stand” with the support of several Lawyers that provides pro bono legal aid advice and representation to women in the Cuyuni/Mazaruni Region who are victims of gender-based violence and is currently working on a number of other initiatives that will raise awareness on women’s health, domestic violence, and seminars to empower women and girls.
