Focus Areas
Mariam is the Founder of MINAK LED Women’s Regenerative Center, a community-based initiative dedicated to empowering refugee women and single mothers. Through practical training in mushroom cultivation, soap making, and entrepreneurship, the center equips women with the skills to become self-employed, discover their full potential, and contribute meaningfully to both economic growth and family well-being. Mariam firmly believes that when you empower a woman, you empower an entire family.
She currently serves as a facilitator at Unidos Social Innovation Center, where she supports women in areas of sanitation and health. Her commitment to community development has led her to work with several organizations, including serving as a judge for ILO Prospects and as a facilitator and PHE agent with Promise Hub.
Mariam completed her Senior 6 studies in Biology and Chemistry at a Congolese school in Kigoma, Tanzania. She later pursued computer skills training at Macmillan College in Tanzania. Upon arriving at Nakivale Refugee Camp, she continued her education in entrepreneurship and leadership through Idea for Africa. She also received training in soap making and batik design at SIDO Bukoba, and studied mushroom growing and spawning multiplication in Kampala, Uganda.
“As a visionary leader, I believe that science and agriculture hold the power to transform communities. My work reflects a deep commitment to uplifting women and fostering sustainable development through knowledge, innovation, and resilience.”
