María José Navarrete Talloni

Focus Areas
Dr. Navarrete is a Chilean veterinarian, Associate Professor of Veterinary Anatomic Pathology, and the Assistant Dean for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine (St. Kitts). She is currently transitioning to a similar role at Long Island University (NY, USA). Her work centers on fostering inclusive academic environments and supporting underrepresented communities in veterinary medicine through mentorship, advocacy, and education.
Dr. Navarrete has held numerous leadership roles, including Faculty Advisor for the Latinx Veterinary Medical Association (LVMA), Pride Student Veterinary Medical Association, and Hard of Hearing and Deaf Veterinary Students (HHDVS). She serves on the boards of Pawsibilities Vet Med and Alerce NGO, and has contributed to DEI efforts through organizations such as ACVP, AAVMC, and the Chilean Veterinary Medical College. In 2022, she was named a Social Change Fellow by Walden University, expanding her research into gender equity, Latinx culture, and cultural awareness in veterinary education.
