Margarita Alonzo Argueta is a member of the National Committee of the Organization of Women in Science For Developing World, Guatemala National Chapter, and OWSD Guatemala. They are encouraging the participation of women and girls in science to address the main challenges of Guatemala, partnering with different actors across society and the international community to reduce the gender gap in STEAM, and promoting science-based decisions with national authorities.

Alonzo is a Guatemalan scientist and politician with over 12 years of experience promoting women’s political participation and protocols to reduce violence against women in politics and cyber harassment. She was an Andi Parhamovich Fellow by the NDI in 2014, VVlead Fellow in 2015, and a VVEngage Fellow in 2018.
