Iulia Scântei

Iulia Scântei is a jurist and a Senator of the Romanian Parliament, where she was elected for a second mandate last December. Formerly Vice-president of the Senate during her first term, she is currently the President of the Legal Committee as well as a member of the Committee for Defense, Public Order and National Security.

Iulia is committed to promoting equal chances for Romanian women in politics and in the justice system and to improving legislation for better legal protection of children and women. A culture for justice among young people is one of her political aims. Her past governmental career includes official positions and dignities such as: Counsellor of the Prime Minister on Antifraud Fight in the field of European Funds, Counsellor to the Minister of Justice, and General Secretary of the Ministry of Justice.

Iulia is a graduate of the Faculty of Law of the “Al. I Cuza” University of Iasi, she holds a Master’s degree in International Relations, and a Postgraduate degree in Security and National Defense. Having more than 20 years of legal experience, she serves also as a notary public.
