Ishita Sharma

Ishita Sharma Founder & CEO, MukkaMaar Ishita Sharma is a feminist, actor and social entrepreneur. She started her acting career at the age of 13 and has worked with stalwarts like Amitabh Bachchan, Shahrukh Khan, Sushmita Sen, and Imtiyaz Ali. During this time she also pursued her education earning a Masters degree in Human Development, going on to work in the Psychiatric OPD in a charitable hospital. She has a strong penchant for performing arts and after completing a decade of training and performing Kathak at prestigious festivals, she founded her school of performing arts by the name Aamad, in 2014. Here she trained herself in martial arts, yoga, theatre, storytelling, writing, and various other art forms. Her cumulative gender experience led to the establishment of the impact-driven, not-for-profit organisation MukkaMaar, that through its work with government partnerships seeks to restore agency in adolescent girls. The core belief of MukkaMaar is that when the burden of safety is lifted, girls begin to explore their true abilities. MukkaMaar has worked with over 20K girls through it’s offline and digital interventions. Ishita has been awarded by CM Devendra Fadnavis in 2019 for her contribution to arts and society. She was awarded the ExpressAWE award making her ‘Social Entrepreneur of the Year’ by the Financial Express group and FICCI. MukkaMaar’s digital program MukkaMaar with Mukki was awarded the SARTHI award for the top Technological Innovation for empowering girls by Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and Asian Disaster Preparedness Network held in Bali in 2022.
