Jang Hyeyeong is a South Korean feminist politician and the founder and representative of the non-profit organization, Mangwonjeongx. To advance the UN SDGs of Gender Equality and Quality Education, she runs the “Feminist School for Politics.” This program empowers young women to become autonomous political agents reinventing modern democracy, rather than mere targets of mobilization. Operating under the slogan, “From Lightsticks to Legislative Gavels,” it connects the light sticks women held to overcome the illegal martial law in late 2024 with the legislative gavel used to lift the decree and impeach the president. This goes beyond shouting for gender agendas; it signifies recalibrating democracy itself by dismantling outdated political structures that block diversity.

Concurrently, Hyeyeong is building networks to bridge climate politics between the capital and non-capital regions.

A former member of the 21st National Assembly representing the Justice Party, Hyeyeong pioneered legislation for universal human rights, gender equality and climate action. She sponsored the Comprehensive Anti-Discrimination Act, the Act on the Guarantee of Rights of Persons with Disabilities, and the Carbon Tax Act. Hyeyeong also stood in steadfast solidarity with the MeToo movement within politics and championed the institutionalization of gender based violence statistics. In recognition of her impactful leadership, she was named to the TIME100 Next list in 2021.
