Hanan Soliman Gewefel, M.D., is an Associate Professor of Diagnostic Radiology and former Dean of the Faculty of Applied Health Sciences College at Misr University for Science and Technology (MUST), Egypt. She leads academic development, healthcare education, strategic planning and innovation in applied health sciences. Dr. Gewefel is also the founder and chairperson of Women and Fetal Imaging (WAFI), a woman-centered healthcare clinic dedicated to women’s health, early detection, advanced imaging services, breast cancer awareness and improved access to care. WAFI provides high-quality breast imaging and screening services through community outreach and preventive healthcare programs. Through WAFI and her leadership initiatives, Dr. Gewefel contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 5 (Gender Equality) and SDG 13 (Climate Action) through her work in sustainable healthcare transformation and WAFI-GREEN, a green radiology initiative focused on reducing the environmental impact of healthcare. Her career achievements include pioneering breast imaging services in Egypt, advancing education and training in radiology, serving as an expert consultant for the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), and contributing to international research and capacity-building projects in breast cancer detection and diagnosis. Driven by a commitment to compassionate healthcare, innovation and empowering women, Dr. Gewefel believes that sustainable healthcare solutions can improve lives and create lasting community impact. She holds an M.B.B.Ch. from Cairo University, a Master’s degree and Medical Doctorate in Radiodiagnosis, a Diploma in Breast Imaging from the European Society of Breast Imaging (Vienna) and certifications in healthcare management and professional training.
