Genet Kebede is the CEO & Creative Director of Paradise Fashion, a well-known fashion brand in Ethiopia, established in 1992. Genet founded the company after studying fashion design and garment construction in Italy and Argentina. Her designs merge traditional Ethiopian with modern techniques and trends. Inspired by her beloved Ethiopian “Hager Lebse (traditional Ethiopian cloth)” and the wonderful textiles of Ethiopia, Genet Kebede is making contemporary Ethiopian fashion and bridal wear for Ethiopian women and the rest of the world using traditional hand woven Ethiopian fabrics. Paradise Fashion’s Product lines include ladies wear that includes caftans & tops, hand woven scarves & shawls, as well as the Paradise Home line that includes pillow cases, decorative throws, wall hangings and table sets. Paradise Fashions also offer custom designs, going the extra mile to design according to the customer’s specific needs and requests. Genet is currently providing her products to the Ethiopian market and Paris through her ladies wear line. Their products are crafted from hand woven fabrics. Genet’s vision is to take her brand global, launch an e-commerce site and bring new techniques to their weavers. Genet’s areas of expertise include design. She has received a certificate in fashion design, pattern making, cutting (greading) and stretching from Flego Italian University.


What Genet hopes to gain from the VV GROW Fellowship: Genet hopes to gain knowledge and skills in marketing, branding and networking. She also is looking to learn from the experience of other fellows.

What Genet can offer other fellows: Genet can offer her experience overcoming challenges in her business, specifically relating to accessing finance. She can also share with fellows her experience within her sector.
