Esther is the Managing Director East Africa of Sistema.bio, the leading biogas company in Kenya and globally that manufactures, sells, distributes and finances biodigesters that transform animal waste into clean cooking fuel and biofertilizer for smallholder farmers around the world. Through their work, Sistema.bio seeks to address climate change, food insecurity and women’s empowerment by providing smallholder farmers with technology, capacity-building and financing. Though smallholder farmers produce 80% of the world’s food, they systematically lack access to technology, capacity-building and financing to improve and grow their farms. Sistema.bio offers a waste management solution to farmers that eliminates time-consuming and unsustainable fuel sources and chemical fertilizers from their farms. This is replaced with renewable energy (biogas) and nutrient-rich organic fertilizer that nourishes the soils for long term crop yield. Their mission is to create value from waste, as they dream of a sustainable, equitable and empathetic world without waste. Sistema.bio has developed a turnkey product, services and financing package for farmers in Latin America, East Africa and India. Esther joined Sistema.bio when she was 25 years old, and quickly rose to executive positions as the company grew and expanded. Previously, Esther served as Finance Manager, Finance Director, and Chief Operations Officer at Sistema.bio. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economy, History and Political Science, a Masters of Finance and Strategy in International Business from Sciences Po Paris and a Masters in International Affairs from the University of St. Gallen. Esther has expertise in business management, growth, problem solving, and corporate finance.
