Focus Areas
Elena Martínez Martínez is an oceanographer, marine biotechnologist, and blue economy entrepreneur. Co-founder and CTO of SOS Biotech, the first BlueTech company in the Dominican Republic, Martinez is pioneering the transformation of invasive seaweed into high-value bioproducts that replace fossil-based inputs and foster a circular blue economy. Her work merges cutting-edge biotechnology with social impact, training vulnerable coastal communities to become key players in a new regenerative marine industry. From seaweed-derived biostimulants and hydroponic substrates to biomaterials and cosmetic ingredients, her innovations are designed to restore ecosystems, create economic opportunities, and decarbonize industries.
Her work is built on a simple but profound realization: waste does not exist in nature.
“As a visionary leader, I draw inspiration from nature’s closed-loop systems to reimagine business as a force that regenerates, not depletes. I’m building solutions where business serves life, not the other way around.”
