Uganda National Self-Advocacy Initiative (UNSAI) is a peer-led organization of people with psycho-social disabilities founded by Dorothy Nakato Mubezi. UNSAI envisions an inclusive society through human rights-based advocacy, empowerment of women with disabilities through skills development, and gender equality advocacy and disability advocacy.

In 2021, Dorothy was a Fellow with the International Disability Alliance as a Researcher. In 2023, Dorothy published a case study “Access to Gainful Employment for Women and Youth with Psychosocial Disabilities in Africa.” She has won numerous awards including the Zero Project Award for Community Inclusion of Persons with Psycho-Social Disabilities. In September 2023, Dorothy received the UNESCO International Literacy Award for equipping rural girls and women with disabilities with literacy and numeracy skills. Dorothy has also received a Syliver Medal and Diploma.
