Doreen Kiconco holds a BA in Human Resource Management from Ndejje University with two certificates in Business Foundation and Virtual Assistant. Doreen is the co-founder of African Continental Crafts Ltd, a social impact enterprise in Uganda with a mission of advancing design innovations and market access for underserved artisans in Africa. The enterprise works with marginalized communities including rural youth and women, youth and women living in slums, indigenous peoples, people with disabilities, and elderly who have limited livelihood alternatives and cultural materials, with artisan practices as their primary resource The enterprise has a hybrid model in which adapted crafts including jewelry, home decor, baskets, apparel and consolidated ancient designs are offered to the market, while capacity development in design innovations, business, and digital marketing skills are offered to under reached makers. These innovations are adapted to the mainstream creative manufacturing sector and drive inclusion in the artisan economy. The African Continental Crafts Ltd creates jobs, transforms endangered artisan practices into enterprises, and improves the lives of people living under $2 per day. In these efforts, they support SDG 1, “No Poverty”, and SDG 10, “Reduced Inequalities”. Doreen loves deploying her energy to confront conditions that deprive people. In her role at the African Continental Crafts roles, she coordinates ongoing improvements to the business model and solicits business grants, investments, and partnerships. Her career milestone is participating in designing the business model.
