Beatriz Adriana Pérez Cadena

A woman from the South with cocoa skin and flowers in her soul, Beatriz is a creator, artist, communicator, Cultural Manager and Tsotsil indigenous from Zinacantán Chiapas Mexico, who speaks the Tsotsil language variant from San Lorenzo Zinacantán, Chiapas. She has a degree in Intercultural Communication from the Intercultural University of Chiapas. Her training in indigenous issues began in 2014 in the Indigenous literature workshops at the Maya-Zoques Writers Unit (UNEMAZ) where she managed to integrate several of her literary texts to the anthologies “Stso’op joj” and “Sko’op Bolom”. She is a former intercultural recipient of the IX intercultural diploma for strengthening the leadership of indigenous women of Mexico and Central America by the CDI, FILAC, National Fund of the Indigenous Peoples of Latin America the Caribbean, and also from the program for leadership for indigenous youth by the University of the Americas Puebla and the Embassy of the United States in Mexico. She is the co-founder of the theater group, Xch¬¥ulel Jlumaltik, to revitalize the Tsotsil language and contribute to the prevention of violence in indigenous communities by collaborating with other community theater groups such as “Teatro de los Volcanes” and “Jts’unba ltik”. She was part of the radio program, “yip kerem tseb”, recognized nationally for being the best program in indigenous language by the National Institute of Youth, and she was a reporter for the program “word in flower” of the Chiapas Radio and Television System. She is the 2019 coordinator of Projects and Alliances of the World Network of Young Politicians Mexico. She received the Chiapas 2020 State Youth Award in the Strengthening of Indigenous Culture Category, “From the Heart to the Earth” a Recognition of Outstanding Indigenous Women of Chiapas 2020. She is currently head of the Department of Cultural Engagement and Participation of the State Youth Institute in Chiapas.
