Amanda Calderón

Amanda Calderón is studying Engineering at the Costa Rica Institute of Technology and Physics at the University of Costa Rica. She has actively participated in a range of student initiatives, such as the Engineering feminist committee, which aims to improve women’s inclusion in engineering spaces. She has also volunteered for professional groups such as the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Robotics and Automation Society (RAS) and Women in Engineering (WIE). She is the co-founder of the Vale Quarks foundation, which aims to bring science to life and make it accessible to vulnerable populations. Through interactive workshops and educational activities, Vale Quarks offers opportunities for learning to communities in rural, border and Indigenous areas. It seeks to pique people’s curiosity and interest in science, with a focus on children and young people. 

Amanda Calderón es estudiante de Ingeniería en el Instituto Tecnológico de Costa Rica y de Física en la Universidad de Costa Rica. Ha participado activamente en diversas iniciativas estudiantiles, como la comisión feminista de la carrera, buscando una mayor inclusión de las mujeres en espacios de ingeniería, y como voluntaria en grupos como Robótica y Automatización (RAS) y Mujeres en Ingeniería (WIE), de IEEE. Es cofundadora del proyecto Fundación Valequarks, cuyo objetivo es llevar la ciencia de manera dinámica y accesible a poblaciones vulnerables. A través de talleres interactivos y actividades educativas, Valequarks brinda oportunidades de aprendizaje a comunidades en zonas rurales, fronterizas e indígenas, fomentando la curiosidad y el interés por la ciencia, especialmente en niños y jóvenes.
