CSW55 continued today with panels on emerging issues and trends affecting equality between women and men, as well as maternal mortality, moderated by UN Women Executive Director Michelle Bachelet.  Vital Voices staff attended Panel 5 on maternal mortality, where panelists discussed progress towards Millenium Development Goal 5: Improve Maternal Health.  The panelists concluded that improved family planning and safer medical practices are needed to reduce the number of women who die from unsafe surgeries and poor medical services.

Vital Voices staff also attended fantastic NGO parallel events today on public-private partnerships, women in peacebuilding and women’s access to education, where they met with activists and women leaders from Africa, Asia and the MENA region working for the empowerment of women and girls in their communities.
