Christelle Kwizera, WE Empower Awardee and founder of Water Access Rwanda, talks about how Rwanda is handling the COVID-19 pandemic and how Water Access Rwanda is adjusting to sustain clean water access for the long-term.

Voices of Resilience: A Conversation with Christelle Kwizera

March 2020 – 2019 WEEmpower Awardee and Founder of Water Access Rwanda, Christelle Kwizera, oversees the award-winning enterprise that not only provides water to over 100,000 Rwandans, but also works to reduce unemployment and bring communities together. With the importance of hand-washing to halt the spread of COVID-19, Christelle and her organization have become front-line healthcare workers – working overtime to try to get more clean water to more people in rural areas of Rwanda. Christelle joined Vital Voices President and CEO Alyse Nelson to discuss sustaining access to clean water in Rwanda.

Christelle and Alyse talk about how Rwanda is handling the COVID-19 pandemic and how Water Access Rwanda and Christelle fit into the country’s current needs.

Water Access Rwanda primarily provides water for drinking, but with the virus spreading quickly and the importance of handwashing becoming increasingly relevant, Christelle talks about the challenges she is facing and the fact that communal water taps are simply not good enough: people need clean water in their own homes.

The good news? You can help. For just $95, you can sponsor a household’s clean water to help Water Access Rwanda implement 270 households by June! Learn more.
