Voices of Resilience: Frontline Healthcare Workers Beemnet Taye Kebede and Metassebia Kefelegn

Voices of Resilience: A Conversation with Beemnet Taye Kebede and Metassebia Kefelegn

April 2020HERlead Fellow Beemnet Taye Kedebe is an Intensive Care Unit nurse in Maryland who is working on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic. Beemnet is joined by her mentor, first responder Metassebia Kefelegen. Beemnet and Metassebia (Meti) join Vital Voices’ Alyse Nelson to discuss healthcare and healthcare workers during the coronavirus crisis.

Beemnet and Meti provide perspective from two people working tirelessly to care for those who have fallen ill, and how the pandemic is affecting their personal lives – separating them from their families at a time they need support most.

They also discuss the strain on the healthcare system that the coronavirus has caused in the United States, what people can do to stop the spread of the virus and flatten the curve. Beemnet and Meti talk about the reforms they hope to see come from the strain this is putting on the system, and how the crisis is showing the important critical role nurses play everywhere.
