Rumana is the Director of Network Engagement at Vital Voices. She develops and implements strategic planning and programming knowledge to support the Vital Voices network to catalyze impact globally. She works in close collaboration with the Issue Advocacy, Leadership & Social Impact, and Tech & Innovation teams to support network engagement.

Prior to joining Vital Voices, Rumana was a strategic planning, partnerships and communications consultant for Welcome.US to expand and mobilize community partnerships around U.S. Afghan resettlement efforts and on USG engagement. She researched and released publications on the global implications of emerging technologies, like 5G, on human rights and civil society with the National Democratic Institute. She served in the Obama White House for 6 years, as Senior Advisor in Global Engagement and Strategic Communications within the National Security Council, and in the Office of Public Engagement. She worked on a range of issues including the Champions of Change initiative, protecting persecuted minorities, policies impacting Muslim communities, advancing relations with Cuba and Laos, and promoting women in entrepreneurship globally. She is a public speaker and co-author of West Wingers: Stories from the Dream Chasers, Change Makers, and Hope Creators Inside the Obama White House.
