Favorite Book:
A couple months ago I finished reading “Parable of the Sower” by Octavia E. Butler, and I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it. As a dystopia enthusiast, I’m no stranger to post-apocalyptic America in literature, but this novel diverged from other books I’ve read. The book begins in 2024, which is creepy, and then gives one of the most realistic depictions of what I think America might look like in the not-so-distant future. It was both terrifying, but also somewhat motivational. I also loved Lauren, the protagonist, and how her rational religion, Earthseed, is used to help Lauren understand and accept the world around her.
