United States

Wendy Barnes, a survivor of child sex trafficking, joined Dignity Health in January 2018 as Human Trafficking Response Program Coordinator. Wendy is a national speaker on human trafficking, using her own experiences to educate and empower audiences in the fight against exploitation. Wendy uses examples from her own life of being trafficked for thirteen years and having numerous encounters with healthcare professionals to educate her audiences, many of whom are healthcare professionals themselves.

Wendy has an associate’s degree in general studies. She has written a memoir, And Life Continues: Sex Trafficking and My Journey to Freedom, and co- authored a chapter in Human Trafficking Is a Public Health Issue: A Paradigm Expansion in the United States (Springer, 2017). She has consulted with the Homeland Security Blue Campaign, is a member of National Survivors Network, and has collaborated on a training video for health care providers at Ascension Health / Via Christi. Wendy has worked with numerous anti-trafficking organizations over the years.
