Program Manager, MENA Region, Human Rights
Van Azad is the Program Manager, Middle East and North Africa for the Human Rights team at Vital Voices. She provides financial management, strategic planning, and stakeholder engagement expertise in the MENA region.
After graduating with a degree in architectural engineering in Iraq, Van joined a restoration project carried out by UNESCO at the Erbil Citadel in the Kurdistan Region, where she discovered that the conservative social norms regarding women had a profound influence on the urban design and architectural elements of Erbil Citadel. She then worked for ExxonMobil as the contributions (grants) manager leading the company’s programs devoted to women’s economic empowerment. Van left her corporate job to return to school and recently graduated from Yale University with a master’s degree in Global Affairs.
