Sasibai is the Founder and CEO of Earth Heir, a premier Malaysian heritage craftsmanship brand which creates fashion and lifestyle pieces that combine heritage artisanal skills with modern, contemporary design. Today, Earth Heir works across five states of Malaysia with over 100 artisans from indigenous tribes, women’s cooperatives and women refugee groups. They make a range of fashion and home accessories, and custom made gifts. Additionally, they provide advisory services to assist artisan groups with product design, production, and pricing.Their products include: bags, accessories, jewelry, home interiors, and stationery. Earth Heir’s mission is to encourage generations to live as heirs of the Earth, and aims to do this by celebrating craftsmanship, designing thoughtfully, engaging in ethical partnerships and advocating conscious consumption. Sasibai also leads Fashion Revolution in Malaysia, which raises awareness about the importance of ethical fashion. She focuses on building up artisans with work and income, so they can have dignity for their work and be masters of their own lives. In addition to working with Earth Heir, Sasibai is also a Board Advisor for the British Council East Asia Crafting Futures program, and a Director of Asiakom, an engineering solutions firm. She has experience in business development, strategic planning, business management, cross-cultural management, and connecting across diverse communities and groups. She received her B.S. in Economics from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and her Master’s in Environment and Development from Cambridge University.
What Sasibai hopes to gain from the VV GROW Fellowship:
Sasibai hopes to gain greater expertise in how to focus her business’ growth, how to grow into new areas, and how to create communities around a cause.
What Sasibai can offer other fellows:
Sasibai can offer other fellows encouragement based on her own experiences, and with her background in finance, she can help give advice to younger entrepreneurs with less exposure to finance and investment. Having lived and worked in the US, UK, and Ghana, and coming from Southeast Asia, she has a diverse network and is happy and willing to share it with other fellows in the program.
