The Dipping Spoon Foundation
New Orleans, Louisiana
Charity Sophia Blanchett was born and raised in Alaska. She is of Yupik Eskimo and African American descent. Raised in a little town called Wasilla, Charity graduated high school in 2004 and enrolled at a local university in Anchorage, Alaska. She worked in various fields including as a political canvasser and at Nordstrom’s and various small fashion boutiques. In 2010, she co-founded Bodyphlo, a high-end ladies performance athletic wear boutique. In 2015 she left Bodyphlo to operate, instruct and run retail at Anchorage Cycle, a start-up boutique cycle studio modeled after SoulCycle. Co-founding, operating and instructing brought her incredible joy, but she still felt empty.
In the summer of 2016, Charity moved out of Alaska to Hawaii, and now lives full time in New Orleans, Louisiana. Living in New Orleans inspired her to enter philanthropy. Her organization, the Dipping Spoon Foundation, is a startup non-profit whose mission is identifying and cultivating the next generation of Alaska Native culinary youth by providing and empowering aspiring chefs with a fully paid culinary scholarship. Recipients will broaden and inspire Alaska’s burgeoning culinary scene with knowledge, experience, culture and heritage.
