Anjana M.

When I became a fellow as a junior in high school, I was working to address the gender disparity in the world through the game of chess. I have expanded those efforts to conduct 6 different chess-to-life workshops, which has impacted 600+ people and doubled the female chess participation in Wisconsin. My brand is now centered on my nonprofit organization called BeatRoot. The goal of BeatRoot is simple: “Find your root. Beat the problem.” Our mission is to help youth embrace their roots and energize them with inspiration and resources to transform the world. As a medical student, my efforts with BeatRoot have centered on the social determinants of health. To this end, I am working on projects such as healthy eating kitchens for kids, mental-health workshops for mothers, and a creative exploration of imposter syndrome for medical students.
