Mariel Alejandra Fuentes Jiménez

Mariel Alejandra Fuentes, from Los Santos, Panama, is a youth leader committed to education, sustainability and climate action. Recognized as an Outstanding Young Person from Los Santos by MEDCOM, she has taken action through projects promoting youth empowerment and the decentralization of opportunities. She has been coaching debate, public speaking and subjects including physics, mathematics and Spanish for over five years. She was a finalist in the 2023–2024 National Public Speaking Competition and has led workshops in more than 15 schools across the country. Her passion for science led her to publish an article on microplastics, which resulted in research that won second place at the Young Engineers Fair in 2022 and 2023 She has participated in initiatives such as HACIA Democracy, HMUNLA (Model United Nations Conference) and the 2024 Local Conference of Youth, as a moderator and advocate for sustainable solutions. Her volunteer work includes projects with UNICEF, MIAMBIENTE, FUNDASTEAM and Talenpro, through which she has participated in national and international events. With her vision and leadership, Mariel brings together science, education and social action, leading the way to a more inclusive and sustainable future.

Mariel Alejandra Fuentes, originaria de Los Santos, Panamá, es una joven líder comprometida con la educación, la sostenibilidad y la acción climática. Reconocida como Joven Brillante de Los Santos por MEDCOM, ha impactado a través de proyectos que promueven el empoderamiento juvenil y la descentralización de oportunidades. Es coach de debate, oratoria y materias como física, matemáticas y español desde hace más de cinco años. Fue finalista del Concurso Nacional de Oratoria 2023-2024 y ha liderado talleres en más de 15 colegios a nivel nacional. Su pasión por la ciencia la llevó a publicar un artículo sobre microplásticos, resultado de una investigación que obtuvo el segundo lugar en la Feria del Ingenio Juvenil en 2022 y 2023. Ha participado en iniciativas como HACIA Democracy, HMUNLA y LCOY 2024, desempeñándose como moderadora y promotora de soluciones sostenibles. Además, su labor como voluntaria incluye proyectos con UNICEF, MIAMBIENTE, FUNDASTEAM, Talenpro y más, destacándose en eventos nacionales e internacionales. Con visión y liderazgo, Mariel combina ciencia, educación y acción social, marcando un camino hacia un futuro más inclusivo y sostenible.
