Maiya Bennett is the founder and Creative Director of the “Ode to Women” Project, a creative non-profit dedicated to using art to uplift and connect women in appalachia. The inaugural campaign raised money for the Women’s Health Center of West Virginia through merchandise sales inspired by her poem “An Ode to Women” and utilized the creative talents of women throughout the state. Inspired by her experience as an eldest daughter and conservative upbringing, her vision for the project includes strengthening the network between women owned and operated small businesses in the state and to empower women and girls through the arts.
