Luiza Brunelli Bührer is the Founder and President of MC², short for “Meninas na Ciência” (Girls in STEM in Portuguese), an organization that aims to bridge the gender gap in the STEM field through educational programs focused on inspiring and empowering girls from a young age. Powered by more than 150 volunteers, MC² has impacted more than 1,100 middle school girls from the Brazilian public education system since 2020.
Luiza is also a Leader in Girl Up, a UN Foundation initiative for gender equality. Through her Girl Up club, Brunelli Bührer has donated more than 45,000 menstrual products, advocated for bills regarding period poverty, and worked on a campaign to encourage young voters in Brazil. Moreover, she currently serves as a Chapter Coordinator for Youth for Women in Technology (WiTech), a youth-led nonprofit organization based in the Philippines that aims to encourage youth to break gender stereotypes and make a difference using technology, overseeing activities in Europe and South America.
Luiza received the 2021 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards (currently named Prudential Emerging Visionaries) in Brazil for her work with MC², out of 2,125 other young changemakers. Through this award, she participated in the Prudential Emerging Visionaries Summit in Newark and was featured on a billboard in Times Square. Her work was also featured in online magazines, printed newspapers, radio stations, and national television networks.
