Strategic Partnerships and Engagement Intern

Position Description:

The Vital Voices team is seeking motivated interns to support the Strategic Partnerships and Engagement team; promote the organization’s image and thought leadership through our online channels and social media; extend its reach and cultivate supporters; explore all aspects of the fundraising pipeline from prospect research to solicitation to stewardship; provide event support; support ongoing and event-driven media relations and fundraising activities; support the amplification of women leaders in our Global Leadership Network; and promote all regional and issue-area programmatic activities. This position reports to the Coordinator of Development and Engagement and the Digital Communications Coordinator.

The internship requires a commitment of 20-40 hours per week. The position is unpaid, but students may receive academic credit for their experience in cooperation with their university. Applications are accepted for the fall, spring, and summer terms, and preference will be given to students who can commit to a full semester. Due to the ongoing issues surrounding COVID-19, Vital Voices is accepting remote applicants for this internship position for the Spring 2021 semester.


  • On-the-job training for a variety of skills
  • Professional development opportunities, including regular “lunch and learn” sessions
  • Opportunities to learn about international advocacy, event planning, fundraising, donor relations, communications and more
  • Network with professional advocates in the non-profit sphere



  • Prospect Research: Creating in-depth research documents on prospective funders including corporations, foundations, and individuals.
  • Engagement Opportunities: Supporting the Senior Events Manager in preparing for and planning organizational events. Past interns have been given ownership of significant portions of event planning.
  • Database Support: Assisting in the maintenance of the organization’s donor databases
  • Stewardship: Maintaining acknowledgment processes, ensuring gift acknowledgment in a timely manner
  • Social Media Management: Draft and posting social media content across Twitter, Facebook and Instagram
  • Website Coordination: Assist with minor web edits through WordPress platform
  • Media Relations Support: Track and monitor media and news
  • External Communications: Contribute to blog, e-newsletter and other online communications projects
  • Research and content planning
  • Other related duties as assigned

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program or recent university graduate
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills
  • Strong research and analytical skills
  • Excellent writing and editing skills
  • Superior computer literacy and previous experience with social media management and multimedia creation
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Detail-oriented, self-motivated and creative
  • Strong interpersonal skills
