Leadership and Global Activation Internship

Position Description:

The Vital Voices team is seeking a motivated intern who will support the Leadership and Global Activation (LGA) team and provide support for leadership programming for women and girls around the world. Individuals with a demonstrated commitment to international women’s advocacy, leadership development, public diplomacy, social entrepreneurship, economic empowerment and civil society development are encouraged to apply. This position will have the opportunity to work with the entire LGA Team on programs such as the HERlead Fellowship, The Leadership Incubator, Voices that Inspire Fellowship, VV100 and more. Because of this, this position will check-in regularly with one member of the LGA team, but will report to all team members regarding specific tasks.


The internship requires a commitment of 20-40 hours per week. The position is unpaid, but students may receive academic credit for their experience in cooperation with their university. Applications are accepted for the fall, spring, and summer terms, and preference will be given to students who can commit to a full semester. Due to the ongoing issues surrounding COVID-19, Vital Voices is accepting remote applicants for this internship position for the Spring 2021 semester.


  • On-the-job training for a variety of skills
  • Professional development opportunities, including regular “lunch and learn” sessions

  • Drafting and editing articles and blog posts for the website
  • Using social media platforms to raise visibility for members of the Vital Voices Global Leadership Network
  • Researching and writing background materials for programs and upon request by network members
  • Assisting with the logistics and implementation of local, domestic and international programs
  • Reviewing grant application and reporting materials as necessary
  • Managing program applications and participant information through SurveyGizmo
  • Editing and preparing program content and materials
  • Administrative tasks as necessary
  • Other related duties as assigned



  • Interest in and knowledge of global women’s issues, international development, using social media for social change and/or women’s leadership
  • Excellent writing and editing skills
  • Excellent communications and digital media skills
  • Experience developing social media campaigns and using content and contact management platforms a plus
  • Strong research and analytical skills
  • Computer literacy (Excel, online portal management, and document formatting skills preferred)
  • Self-starter with ability to work independently and meticulous attention to detail
  • Strong organizational skills and administrative capabilities, with experience in coordinating travel a plus
  • Spanish and/or Portuguese proficiency is a plus
  • Experience using Salesforce and Canva is a plus
