Samar Haj Hassan

Public-Private Partnerships Middle East and North Africa Human Rights

Convinced of the value corporate social responsibility can offer her country, Samar Haj Hassan established the first consultancy firm in Jordan to support the emerging trend. This work enables Samar to live out her passion — supporting the sustainability of Jordan’s burgeoning social development sector.

Now managing partner of Mahara Professional Consultancies in Development, Samar advises companies on their adoption of socially responsible business policies and practices. For the first time, a Jordanian firm is advancing corporate responsibility by providing comprehensive services, including research and surveys, monitoring and evaluation, project management and training.

Though she’s made her mark in Jordan, Samar intends to make an impact that extends beyond her home country. At the regional level, she acts as a strong advocate for women’s and children’s issues, working closely with the Arab League as a member of an advisory committee to develop family services. Within Jordan, Samar helps guide national dialogue and inform agendas on youth leadership, social networks, family violence and protection services.

In 2007, Samar bid for a seat in national parliament elections. Even though she didn’t win a seat, she ran a record-setting campaign, winning the most votes ever cast for a woman in the Amman Governorate.
