Tina Brown and Angelina Jolie Support the Malala Fund with $150,000
On February 4, 2013, Malala Yousafzai spoke to the world for the first time since she was targeted for her advocacy on behalf of girls’ education in October of last year. She announced the creation of the Malala Fund, which supports the right to education for children across the world.
Vital Voices established the Fund on behalf of Malala and her family, working together with the United Nations Foundation and Girl Up, and within a community of supportive organizations and individuals. Read all about the Malala Fund here and news of the announcement here.
Tina Brown, editor-in-chief of The Daily Beast and Newsweek, and creator of the Women in the World Foundation, joined forces with Angelina Jolie's Education Partnership for Children of Conflict, and made a combined pledge of $150,000 to the Malala Fund. The gift will jumpstart the first grant cycle and honor Malala’s wishes and determination to help girls go to school in Swat Valley, Pakistan.
